Just don't get this guy to wire your stuff...
Installing RFID equipment pretty much means PoE. Most newer network devices (Telephones, Cameras, and RFID readers) work well using PoE and it makes wiring much easier. No AC to run, fewer cables, simpler installation.
Obviously, the person that dropped these injectors in could have made a very nice, clean, maybe even attractive installation? But, lets face it... A PoE Switch doesn't cost a lot and it's better than a lot of extra cables that tangle or break.
Reasons for PoE Injectors:
- You only need a couple PoE ports and you are certain you want to live like a troglodyte.
- You work for a large company with very expensive enterprise 10Mb hubs they don't want to upgrade because they spent $1,400 per port. i.e. If you are spending more than $15 per port for your network -- you should probably replace your old switches with new ones. The property tax on those old beasts probably outweighs their value. Check with your accountants!
But, the one piece of advice I will suggest: Don't get this guy to wire your stuff...
